Best Socket A motherboard. Please advice.

No you haven't jumped back in time and yes it's still nearing the end of 2006.

It's like this: I happen to have some spare memory, hd, cd drives, case, and a xp-m 2600+. I used to have all this in a crappy kt400 mobo which died on me. I would like to buy something of ebay to really make the most of this xp-m that I have. I plan on playing around a little bit with it; maybe overclocking it some. This PC will be a gift to my mom for her office work. I know this pc will be more than sufficient for those apps. But I won't do that till sometime in Feb of next year.

Basically I would like the socket A experts to tell which is the best socket A mobo I can get. I am going c2c next year but I would really like to have some fun with this before then.

I just upgraded from a DFI LANPARTY NFII ULTRA B. This board is a champ and is arguably one of the best Socket A boards made. Its phased out though so it may be hard to find.

yeah I know it's gonna be a little tough to find. That's why I'd like to get a few options from the people who are in the know with socket A. I am sure something will be available on ebay.

Abit NF7-S Version 2.0 was the undisputed king. You might be able to find one on eBay. It is not the same as the Abit NF7-S2.

Brand new, Newegg has the EPoX EP-8RDA3+ PRO which has a very good track record.

NF7-S v2.0 is the one you want to get had you read Anoobis' post again.

Yup...that mobo has gotten the Amd Athlon xp 2500+ (barton core) to over 3.2ghz 8O...with phase change

You might want to try for an ECS K7S5A. I've been using this with a an Athlon XP 2000 for 4 years and it's not given me a single hiccup. It's cheap, and you couldn't crash it if you tried. Arguably one of the best value motherboards ever made for Socket A.

NOTE: There are two versions of this board: the K7S5A and the K7S5A Pro. I'm not sure of the exact differences, but I believe the Pro has USB 2.0 support.

Well it looks like the NF7-S V2.0 is readily available on ebay so thats probably what i'll get.

What would you guys say is a good and stable place to take the xp-m 2600+ to? I wouldn't want to burn the bloody thing before I get to give it to my mom.. hehe.

What settings are you running your xp-m 2600+ at? is it overclocked? what are the temps, voltage?
