Hey guys, curious on your thoughts:

I'm looking to build an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 or 6300 based machine (I use to be an AMD guy 🙁 ). I was looking at some Asus boards, but the price on the decent boards are a little high. I'll only be using the computer mainly for CG/video editing and Games and any input will be appreciated. I'll be throwing a SAPPHIRE 100154 Radeon X1800XT 256MB vidcard in it simply because the price/performance ratio is sexy.

This is a pretty big step for me as I've always been a AMD/Nvidia guy. Thanks ahead of time guys.

get the gigabyte 965p dq6 or asus P5B deluxe both are 965p chipsets designed for core 2 duo ... or you could look at the asus 975x DH (a lot more pricier though) b'cos you're gonna be using an ati card you could therefore if you bought the asus 975x go crossfire in the future 😛

o are you overclocking?

I'm all for overclocking if I can get an entry-level component and make it a higher-end piece of equipment.

I see, my approach except I go for the extreme end.

In that case a Gigabyte 965P-DS3, E6300, a pair of cheap but qualified RAM like those, and an Acrtic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro ($30) is all that's needed to breeze past 3Ghz. Designed to follow the Core2Duo OC guide up in the Overclocking CPU forum.

Also note the new X1900XT 256MB have a MSRP of $199.

You have a Memory suggestion for that board?
