Question best software option to retrieve files on mac?

Hey guys, what's the easiest and safest software used to retrieve files and folders from a mac with a non functioning OSX without having to take out the drive and connect to another mac please? I never go by what reviews I am seeing on the net, I always try to seek out a reliable and trusted source first so I thought I'd ask here to see if any of you guys are using a software for this purposes which works for you?

Just out of curiosity, why don't you want to take it out and hook to another computer as a secondary drive to pull the files?

Oh, sorry, I should have explained, this, I am an experienced Windows Tech and wish to start learning how to repair Mac OSX, not hardware, only software therefore I am trying to be prepared to have the tools required when the situation should arise.

I haven't had to try this, but have you tried repairing the OS with the disk utility that comes with OSX? Whether through the install disk, or plugging it into another mac to use their disk utility.

I have found that OSX Disk Utility is a fantastic tool. Glad to see that Windows 7 started to implement that type of utility.

Yes, I am familiar with and have tried the Disk Utility to repair and erase the Drive before but as mentioned I am seeking a software to retrieve files from a non working OSX.
