I was wonder what speaker setup is better for gaming 2.1,5.1 or 7.1 because my brother keeps saying to me that his Logitech X-530 is better than my Harman Kardon soundstick III because it has 5.1 sourround sound and has more bass i personally do not enjoy a lot of bass and rather better highs mids and lows

I have a 2.1 that sounds awesome for the price I paid for it ($20).

I also have a 7.1 home theater that sounds outstanding, but it was a lot more.

Which is better? It all depends on what you are comparing it to and what sound you like. It is very, very subjective. You have to consider: music type, sound source, price you paid, speaker layout, system power, etc, etc, etc....

Generally "better" is higher quality sound, but that is usually directly proportional to the money you spend on it.

Your brother'sX530 isn't so good anyway - http://www.cnet.com/au/products/logitech-x-530/

The z506 is a fair bit better - http://www.cnet.com/products/logitech-z-506-speaker-system-for-pc-wired-series/

CNET thought your's is in between - http://www.cnet.com/products/harman-kardon-soundsticks-iii/

I have an old Logitech Z-5500 setup on my computer... but a couple of years ago I bought a Logitech G930 headset and find that I prefer using that instead of traditional speakers because I'm able to blast the sound without worrying about disturbing the neighbors.

You should consider a headset.

For gaming, absolutely at least 5.1 the Bass level is really not the issue but the surround gaming environment when playing games like First Person walk into environment, where sounds are positioned in the environment so you can hear something from the left or right or behind you.

However to take full advantage of that type of gaming experience you need a sound card to support it and Creative has been producing EAX supporting cards for many years now, just for gaming the best IMO is the Creative Sound Blaster Z.

I run a Creative Gigaworks G550W THX 5.1 surround speaker system.

They're not being produced anymore so you won't find a set except maybe on Ebay, and any owner presently using them would not part with them either, IMO they are that good!

Unless you have actually experienced gaming using a surround speaker setup, you do not know what's missing, why not ask your brother to let you game on his machine and see what it's like, then you will know the difference!

With a 2.1 speaker system the best you have is good stereo reproduction, but environmental surround gaming they cannot support, simple as that, (even if your present sound card can support environmental audio to 5.1 or 7.1!), this is one area that you get what you pay for.

Edit: My wife runs these and she loves them.

So - would you change your sound system anyway? Or is this just for an opinion?

If you would change, what budget? Z506, Z906 ?
