Best SSD? asus gl552vw?

i want to get the best SSD that i can buy for my brand new Asus gl552vw, i know about computers and stuff but i really have no clue about hard drives and if their are different sizes. i can always ask a computer engineer, but why do that when i got this site ;D. So just want suggestion on the best SSDs for my gaming laptop ;D Willing to pay 100-300$ for an good ssd

I wouldn't worry about it.... while we could argue about who gets the best benchmarks, what it really comes down to is can you tell the difference

We bought two identical laptops one with Samsung Pro SSD + 7200 rpm HD and the other with a 7200 rpm SSHD .... they were randomly assigned to users who ran workstation apps and gaming..... no one was able to tell which one they were using.

What size are you planning on .... if it's not 500 or 1000 GB, and will be using with games stored on a separate HD, I'd get an SSHD

Agreed, the 850 Evo series is the best value/performance, and the 950 Pro offers nearly no advantages unless you're doing extremely heavy video work, and have tonnes of cash to splurge.
I would potentially even suggest the 850 Evo in the 250GB model, 500GB is still a little overkill for the average consumer in my opinion unless they have a specific need for a higher capacity SSD.

250 GB SSD really only holds 234 GB
After you set aside the recommended 15% free space, ya have only 199 GB
Set aside 80 GB for Windows footprint which will grow to 80 GB after six months and ya have 119 GB
Reserve say 30 GB for programs / utilities whatever and you have 89 GB left for games

GTAV won't fit on the 89 GB that's left...

Which means most of ya games will in no way benefit from the SSD.

I have no issue with having that stuff on an SSD... but put in a 1 or 2 TB SSHD for the game storage as the SSDs are at least 50% faster than the HD. Also it has to be recognized, other than benchmarks and the 1 - 3 games that fit on the SSD, the gain from adding having the SSD + SSHD as opposed to just the SSHD is 0.9 seconds faster boot time (16.5 => 15.6).

True that.
I tend to run most utilities off my HDD as a pose to an SSD, but I guess on a laptop its a different story in terms of how fast things run on the included hard drive.
The bonus is that you get slightly higher speeds with the higher capacity variant, so there's always that.
Given OPs budget I suppose its a perfectly sound investment, misread it as willing to pay $100-$130 initially, don't know why....silly me.

I have (2) 256 GB Samsung Pro SSDs ... and (2) 2 TB SSHDs on my main box.... it's pretty full but the 2nd SSHD holds all the backups for the 4 other desktops on the SoHo network

Don't be fooled. Games are big and they will only get bigger. Get the 500GB evo if you are in a hurry. Personally, wiht a budget of 300, i would wait for the 1TB EVO to be out and get that.
