Hi,

I just found out in another thread that the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula won't support an M.2 SSD - now I am wondering what the newest technology is that is supported by this board, or if someone can specifically recommend an SSD drive that can be used as a system drive with this board, in the 128GB or 256GB range?

I know next to nothing about hardware, so any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

(specifically, my friend whom I am asking for wants to know if he can get an 'add in card' such as the Toshiba RD400A - I have noticed that it is a PCIe 3.0 card, but would that be backwards compatible with the Crosshair board that has PCIe 2.0?)

OK thanks, that might be the solution then. The problem is that all SATA ports have been used, so that might require a PCIe RAID controller in order to be able to add more devices - but I'm hoping that that's not something that's too difficult to install and configure? I'm pretty proficient when it comes to web design and graphics, but hardware has never really been my thing - I'm just trying to help out a friend who knows even less about it than I do!

PCIE Raid/Sata card (just extra sata ports aren't expensive, Raid cards can get very expensive) are pretty plug and play, it may require drivers, but probably not.

If the motherboard has run out of Sata ports though, you may want to just upgrade all your HDDS/SDDs to bigger capacities to reduce the space usage, costlier but... easier to manage.
