Question Best SSD for me

My son has the following motherboard in his gaming pc

ASRock Z170 Extreme4 ATX LGA1151

He would like to add a decent SSD to his gaming pc but we don't know anything about them. Can this motherboard have a pcie ssd added or would it be a sata connection? He wants one around 500gb-1tb for installing games to make them run faster. Any recommendations would be great.

yes it can have m.2 pcie ssd

For gaming. won't see much different with a good sata type ssd
