Hi guys, i'm currently considering buying a new ssd for my pc and I would like to know what is currently the best one knowing that my motherboard doesnt support pcie 4.0. I checked on the internet and everyone seem to recommend a different one so i'm asking here hoping I will get more info.

Samsung EVO. A PCIe 4.0 device will automatically adjust to a 3.0 interface.

A bit more detail of your requirements, like budget, size, usage profile especially write load, and reliability might be helpful.

Without those nobody'd be any the wiser.

There are plenty of reviews here; Pick one that you are happy with.

PCIe 4.0 could be an unnecessary additional expense, especially if you could get PCIe 3.0 drives for cheap, and if the OP had no plan to upgrade anytime near.

There may (or may not) be Samsung NVMe drives with 3.0 interface easily available to the OP. I don't know. I will always recommend Samsung because of the software that is included rather than just the hardware. I also didn't recommend the additional cost of the PRO over the EVO.

But in terms of performances, is the 970 evo good enough or will i see a difference if i take the 980 pro knowing that its performances will be decreased in a PCIe 3.0 interface

The transition from spinning disk to SSD is a HUGE jump. Everything after that, SATA to NVMe, PCIe 3.0 to 4.0 is very tiny incremental changes compared to the spinning to SSD change.
Get the largest SSD your budget can accept. That will be more important than buying the "fastest". Because there is very little real-world difference. Benchmark differences, yes. Real-world, no.

Hmm okay then i guess i'll go for a bigger 970 evo instead of a more expensive 980 pro that wont even work at its best... Thanks for the advice !
