[citation][nom]azama[/nom]Wonder why no drive is approaching 600MB/s, maybe 2 drives in RAID 0 could be faster?I thought SSDs have internal RAID-like configuration.[/citation]

SSDs can't go faster than the interface allows. There are actually PCIe SSDs that break 7GB/s, but they are extrmely expensive PCIe 3.0 x16 SSDs with extremely high capacity. OCZ has such a drive at 12TB and up to 7.2GB/s sequential and another 16TB drive that can reach up to 6GB/s sequential. That's GigaBYTES per second, not gigabits per second and it's not a typo. Two SSDs in RAID 0 really can mean almost twice the performance, but that also means that you have better choose two highly reliable SSDs if you want to avoid losing your data. Intel's 330s might be the best all-around model of choice for this because they use SandForce, a controller series known to not need TRIM at least with the recent versions because it has excellent garbage collection alone, they have high capacity for the price, and are fairly high performance SSDs.

[citation][nom]shuffman37[/nom]I was lucky enough to snag a Samsung 830 256GB for $230 on Newegg this evening. Lowest price of the year so far![/citation]

The Crucial m4 msata 256GB is available for 225 from Crucial. I think that is a much better deal than the Mushkin Atlas which is over a hundred dollars more...

Impossible. Are you sure you are talking about the 128 and not the 64? 7/31: amazon has it at $99 and newegg has it at $144.

actually, the total of the one day sale (7/30) on newegg was $169.98 not $169.99. :)

envy14tpe - yes, it's for the 128 gb not 64 gb ssd. yes, it's back to $143.99 now (7/31) on newegg. newegg threw in a $15 off deal in addition to dropping the price to $99.99. whereas on amazon, it's $99.99 but no extra deal (plus they charge tax in my state). newegg took off $30 at the checkout since i ordered two. :)

you just have to keep checking for deals. hint: newegg one day deals usually run on monday! :p

Thanks for the heads up that any one of those drives purchased after June 5 is eligible! I got a Desktop Retail Kit with the 256gb drive at B&H photo for $190, but I was able to get the key after calling. Pretty great deal when taking this key into consideration.

It would be real nice if more info is included in these SSD round ups that let us that still have SATA II X58 platforms. It seems that some SATA III SSDs are backward compatible and some are not at all.

Almost all SATA III drives are backwards-compatible.

Samsung gave me this reply;

Dear Customer,

We apologize for the inconvenience but the purchasing period to be eligible for the game code is between 6/5/2012 and 7/17/2012. I am afraid that you have purchased the SSD outside of the time frame and we can not provide you a game code.
