Ok, so I have a old computer I'm giving my Mom and have been using it for the past week and low and behold, a flaw it had back in the day reared its ugly head and brought back bad memories.
I have a ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard and since I had it the bios randomly forgets settings, and it takes a lot of settings to get this thing running. I can research and figure out what the settings are but I don't expect my Mom to go into the bios and re-enter all the settings.
So, I want to use all the old hardware, the memory I have is 2 sticks of crucial PC3-10600E-9-10-E0 and I have a PCIE 2.0 x16 Radeon HD 5830. I think those are the only parts that I would need to worry about being able to carry over to another board wouldn't I? The CPU would work as long as it is a AM3 chip, right?
I want to spend as little as possible, which is why I am trying to re-use the power supply, case, memory, graphics card, ect, so refirbished does't bother me, I just need something super stable for her, like won't need maintenance on the mother board side for 2 years.
