Best stable OC in FX-8320 @ Stock cooler

Hey guys,

I'd like to see what's the maximum stable clock you reached with stock cooler in FX-8320 and what you think about the stock cooler.

Probably 4.1 or 4.05GHz, the stock cooler for any FX CPU just blows, I doubt theres no one out there crazy enough to do such a thing! If someone was able to get 4.5GHz stable, I will literately praise the stock cooler for the rest of my life.

I thought stock cooler could do better. I saw lots of websites where people got their CPUs to 4.4GHz with stock cooler easily.

They are NUTS then. The CPU must have been running very hot - isn't worth it at ALL.

Nop, actually it was running at 58ºC +/- and max. 65ºC.

the stock cooler for the 8xxx is actually decent and not the same as the 4 or 6s piece of aluminum. I have gotten 4.4 out of the 8120 stock cooler, max temp ~61c.

8320 would probably get maybe 4.6, depending on the voltage required for your particular chip.

4.6Ghz seems quite high for stock cooler already, but that 8120 running at 4.4Ghz with max temp at 61ºC sounds good, hope FX-8320 is that way too.

Bit off-topic: What clock approximately would a FX-8320 need to be at to match an i5-3350p? It looks like FX-8320 isn't very far from i5-3350p at stock from benchmarks.

If you can get a good undervolt on the cpu, could allow 4.5. my 8120 runs at 4.7 ghz at 1.344v with a good cooler at 49c.. (stock max boost 4.0 ghz runs at 1.415v) If i recall, my 4.4 ghz voltage was stable at ~1.18v wich is down from the 1.225v at 3.1 ghz stock setting. The voltage will vary from chip to chip.

Performance seems very good, it's near the i5-3570K so better than the i5-3350p, enough. For people who can't afford the i5-3570K, the FX-8320 seems a good deal. But that power consumption.. it seems like I can't get it because I'll use a 450W PSU ( XFX Pro 450W Core Edition ). I saw that HD7850 TDP is 110W.

290/300W of the CPU ( might be less if I can get a lower voltage ) + 110 = 410W. 20/30W free, I will not do that. Or is that CPU load the very maximum load of the CPU?

that was the power from the wall, efficiency is lost there so power draw on the psu itself is less than stated. Also, max power draw itself is rarely obtained unless your running prime 95.

Ok, good. I know this topic was supposed to be a showoff of good stable OCs with FX-8320 @ stock cooler but since we're talking about that: What would you choose? i5-3350p + MSI B75MA-P45 or FX-8320 + ASRock 970 Extreme3? The FX-8320 is 9,11€ cheaper ( which ain't going to be so anymore because shipping is 7,99€ which means it will be like 2€ difference ) than the i5 and knowing I can OC the FX-8320 and not much the i5-3350p & FX-8320 will do quite better in 3D modelling & heavy multi-threaded apps ( even thought I'll be mostly gaming I still want decent performance in other things ).

with games there won't be much difference at all with a 7850 if any. the advantage goes to the 8320 when overclocked and especially doing 3d, photoshop, or video editing.

Attempting to overclock your new cpu without a proper cooler (which is a minor increase in price considering you are upgrading mobo and cpu) is truly a horrible idea. Everyone's case flow is different, and the same goes for different cpus, none are the same when overclocked. To not invest a further 20bucks on your part for your new upgrade (if you plan to overclock) to get a decent cpu cooler would be foolish. #1 rule in overclocking, get rid of stock cooling. If you choose to do thermal damage or possibly just fry your chip then go ahead, but I highly suggest being proactive in your investment and not risking your hardware unnecessarily.

EDIT: Also, unless a poster is giving you screenshots there is no proof where they ran their cpu. I've seen many people on Tom's and OCN that do damage to their FX cpus because they thought they'd overclock with a stock cooler.
