I need a monitor stand that allows me to rotate a 42" display 180 degrees, and have no idea where to start because I know nothing about which brands are good when it comes to monitors.

A stand is a stand, nothing major there.

If you are wanting a wall mount and in USA/Canada then I suggest you look at monoprice.com

If you are wanting a desk stand then that is trickey because a 42" monitor is very tall verticaly so you would need a very tall pipe mount one.

Thinking about, if you needed a desk stand you would likely need one for 2 monitors in a vertical configuration, and then just use it on the top.

OK so like no particular brand stands out as good or bad.

would be good but if there is cheaper/I can get that last 30 degrees in that would be great.

Solution
My bed is directly opposite my desk. So I want to be able to smoothly rotate my display so I can see it from my bed. I can do it now its just really cumbersome. I can't really use wall mounts and the above link says max monitor size of like 20 something inches so idk.

To me, the above suggests that at present when you are at your desk you're facing your bed. It may not be practical but have you considered the possibility of sitting on the opposite side of the desk?

LOL that was a great suggestion but unfortunately the way my room is (small) and the massiveness of my desk, bed, and multiple amps, I can only have my furniture the way it is with out blocking either my closet or bedroom door.
