looking for a good sub $300 cpu for gaming. I usually run Fortnite:Battle Royale, CS:GO, all different kinds of call of duty's, H1Z1, pub G, and possibly some Destiny 2/battlefield. Also, if you ghave any other suggestions on what is should upgrade or change, please let me know.
Specs right now:
- MSI H170M-A PRO motherboard
- Corsair CX650M power supply
- 8gb of ram
- gtx 1060 6gb
- pentium g4400 (this is what i want to upgrade) (has a stock cooler)
- Cooler master Master Box Lite 5.1 case
Thanks!

You can find i7-7700K on eBay new and used for under $300. (Would require an aftermarket CPU cooler, at least Hyper 212 or Cryorig H7)

But if you want to purchase from a legitimate reseller then just go i7-7700.

*7th-gen Intel also typcially requires a motherboard bios update.

Okay, im newish to pc gaming, so im not COMPLETELY sure what a bios update for a motherboard is and how to do it... can you please explain that to me?

Check CPU compatibility on manufacturer's website - https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H170M-A-PRO#support-cpu

It looks like 7th-gen Kaby Lake requires at least bios version 7972vB6

So if you don't have at least that, then you will need to downlaod that bios file. Place it on a USB drive. Boot to BIOS, and hopefully your motherboard has some sort of EZ bios update utility.

Your motherboard manual will help you with this.
