I'm in the market for an ultrabook. I want it to be 14" or less with a 1080p screen. It also needs at least a 9 hour battery and be light. I also need a nice keyboard with an OK touchpad. This will be for school, taking on vacation (my family drives everywhere and we drive at least 12 hrs each day) and for a light gaming machine for friends (LoL, Minecraft or GMod).
I was looking at the Dell XPS 13 with infinity display (this one: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Dell-XPS-13-9343-Signature-Edition-Laptop/productID.312471000) but I don't know how well it would play games. Also LinusTechTips said that the keyboard has some obvious give but I don't know how hard he had to press down to get it to flex. I type pretty lightly (by that I mean I don't slam the keys down) so I don't know if it will flex for me.
I also saw the Macbook Air 11" base version. It's the same price as the XPS 13 with almost the exact same specs. The thing that concerns me is the screen. I don't know if the updated Macbook Air has a screen upgrade but the previous model had a 1366x768. It's also has just a 9hr battery compared to the 15hr battery of the XPS 13.
This final laptop is different for me. It's a 2-in-1 and I still have mixed feelings about it. It's the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/productID.313300900?VID=313359900&srccode=cii_17588969&cpncode=45-39264484-2&WT.mc_id=US_datafeed_Google) and it's only $750. It's a bit chunkier than the other 2, doesn't have an SSD, and only has a 8hr battery. On the other hand it turns into a tablet (sort of), has 8gb of RAM instead of 4, has a broadwell CPU (like the others), has a 1080p screen and has a stylus.
I know this was a lot so thanks for making it this far. I want to get this before spring break (my current laptop is having problems opening up Chrome so... yeah... I need an upgrade) and I wouldn't mind ordering from other sites, but the Microsoft Store has the same prices as most other places. Btw, most of the time I'll be using a mouse, but when I'm in the car I have to use the trackpad.
