Discussion Best upgrade course for old laptop - Lenovo G460-20041

Good afternoon,

I have this older laptop from lenovo, model g460-20041. Sometimes is it insufferable, with major slowdowns. I'd like your opinion on what is the best course for an upgrade.
My main goal here is just make it more usable.
(This is NOT my main PC, but it is used regularly by my family)

CPU: Core i3 370M 2.4Ghz
320GB 5400 rpm HDD
4GB (2x2) 772H RAM ( taken from another laptop we had laying aroud here some years ago)
intel HD Graphics

What would have a greater impact in overall performance:

Swapping HDD for SSD X Adding more RAM ( 8gb (2x4) 1066MHz)

I'm inclined to do both of these, but I'm curious to which would be the best first upgrade

Probably not but it wouldn't hurt to make a backup of drivers incase you do run into issues.

Seconding this. I'd add that upgrading to 4GB x 2 (8GB total) is nearly as important, even. 4GB is sort of the bare minimum these days.

Also agree with WildCard about the drivers. Back them up or download them from the OEM and have them handy for when you reinstall. Issues or not, it makes reinstalling easier.
