Hi Community,
Recently, I've thought about 'reviving' my old machine for some better gaming and entertainment purposes as it is at least 3 years old and the last time I upgraded it was adding 2GB more RAM as well as a radeon 4850 GPU. The boost in performance was noticeable, but it still felt it could go much further. In particular, the processor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16819103211) just doesn't seem to be cutting it after some nights of CoD:MW2 and even Dragon Age. I've read some reviews and recommendations to buying processors, but I'm still not too sure, as it appears I have quite a... niche? I'm not willing to spend too much, and some of the stuff I found below seems to be within my budget.
Currently, I have:
1600x900 20" monitor
4GB DDR2 RAM
Radeon 4850 1GB
...and so far, I've looked into:
Athlon II 7850 BE (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103678&cm_re=athlon_7850-_-19-103-678-_-Product)
Athlon 64 X2 6400+ BE (http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUDetail.aspx?id=33)
AMD Phenom X3 8750 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103252)
The problem is that I'm stuck with a AM2 motherboard and I'm really not too willing to upgrade it, as I'm simply trying to find something that offers the best bang for buck. All the socket AM3 ones have some amazing specs, but I just want to keep it simple for now. I'm hoping these AM2+ CPUs will work out just fine, seeing as it is asus and I've already found some recent BIOS updates. Thanks in advance.
