Hi Community,

Recently, I've thought about 'reviving' my old machine for some better gaming and entertainment purposes as it is at least 3 years old and the last time I upgraded it was adding 2GB more RAM as well as a radeon 4850 GPU. The boost in performance was noticeable, but it still felt it could go much further. In particular, the processor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16819103211) just doesn't seem to be cutting it after some nights of CoD:MW2 and even Dragon Age. I've read some reviews and recommendations to buying processors, but I'm still not too sure, as it appears I have quite a... niche? I'm not willing to spend too much, and some of the stuff I found below seems to be within my budget.

Currently, I have:

1600x900 20" monitor
4GB DDR2 RAM
Radeon 4850 1GB

...and so far, I've looked into:
Athlon II 7850 BE (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103678&cm_re=athlon_7850-_-19-103-678-_-Product)
Athlon 64 X2 6400+ BE (http://products.amd.com/en-us/DesktopCPUDetail.aspx?id=33)
AMD Phenom X3 8750 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103252)

The problem is that I'm stuck with a AM2 motherboard and I'm really not too willing to upgrade it, as I'm simply trying to find something that offers the best bang for buck. All the socket AM3 ones have some amazing specs, but I just want to keep it simple for now. I'm hoping these AM2+ CPUs will work out just fine, seeing as it is asus and I've already found some recent BIOS updates. Thanks in advance.

It's a rather old one and googling it or searching for it on asus' own website just doesn't yield much useful stuff 🙁 They call it A8M2N-LA (NodusM3) by asus, and after some research, it's not well known as it seems to have been manufactured as a joint programme or some sort with HP for one of their 'premade' PCs....

This might sound weird but, I'm simply trusting in the make right now and waiting for some other emails which I've sent to HP about more info on the mobo.

I think that THIS is your mobo.

Now, the HP's site say that only support till 5000+ BUT if you look HERE, you can find that maybe the X2 6400+ could work on your mobo. Now, you have to make a decision, you can take the risk and buy the 6400+ that maybe work on your mobo, but if doesn't work you could lost the money of your new processor.

Looks like I'm pretty much stranded with all the standard AM2 CPUs then... read some of the comments there and there doesn't seem to be an actual BIOS update that will open the mobo up to AM2+ processors. Looks like I'll have to face up to that price tag of the 6400+.
