Best upgrade from a 6870?

Hi everyone, I am back from UNI over this summer and I don't have my main rig with me to play all of the latest games at high settings unfortunately.

I do however have a spare parts PC which I have put together and it works fairly well, I'll list the specs:

i3 2130
AMD 6870
8gb DDR3 RAM
500W GS corsair psu
ASROCK matx board
NZXT S340 case

Basically I'm looking to find a GPU that can have better performance than my aging 6870 but not bottleneck the i3. Thanks in advance.

An entry level to midrange GPU that will play nice with the i3 so £100-150 ideally and can play most games at Mid/high at 1080p.

I have not kept up with amds numbering strategy so i'm not sure how they compare to the modern GTX line.

gtx 960 for too many reasons

Also the r9 380 is around that price point.

GTX 960 feels like a card that doesn't belong anywhere. I'd much prefer an R9 380.

Okay, I'm looking at the 960 and the R9 380 they are right at the top for my budget on this PC and i'm unsure if it would be to much for the little i3 but thanks for the suggestions so far guys.

I found an R9 270X for £100 on amazon do you guys think this a good choice for the build? I'm trying to save as much money and I can't seem to find a similar card from Nvidia.

For a £100 yes its a very good buy mate - it'll do medium/high which is what you asked for.

Ended up getting a GTX 660 Ti for £50 so all good
