Hello all,

I recently got back a security deposit that I wasn't exactly expecting and wish to upgrade my gaming PC. The question: What should I upgrade within an 800$ limit that will allow me to improve my frame rate in 1080p gaming? My specs are as follows

3x 1080p monitors (144hz)
Case: Thermaltake Level 10 GT
GPU: 2x 760gtx SLI 2gb
CPU: FX-8350 @ 4.7ghz
Cooling: h100i (I lost the intel brackets)
Mobo: 990fx asus ROG
RAM: G.Skill Sniper 16gb (stock 1333mhz running currently at 1600)
PSU: Corsair hx750i

It's a nice computer, don't get me wrong. I can run Witcher 3 at medium settings at around 60-70 FPS. But the problem lay in the fact that 60-70 FPS looks like absolute crap on a 144hz monitor. Many games have problems with vsync and I usually try to avoid it when possible. I'm also starting to notice most next-gen console ports are utilizing 4gb vram and I'm limited by the 2gb vram on my 760's causing me to have to run most games textures at medium rather then high/ultra (gta 5, dying light, and middle earth).

I don't like to run games at medium. If I make a purchase - I want it to be high end. I was thinking about switching over to intel for games like blizzards that have horrible performance with AMD. Should I wait for Skylake? Will DX12 improve my AMD performance? Is buying a 980ti a good idea with my 3x monitor setup and will it provide me with a huge difference over my SLI setup?

Thanks for reading and thanks for the help.

Thanks for the input gerr. I'm hesitant about a potential CPU bottleneck and a minuscule FPS increase over the 760 sli's. Theres so little data on 8350+980 builds.

According to PassMark, at stock, your CPU has more CPU horsepower than a stock i5-4690k, so I highly doubt you would see a CPU bottleneck.

You could sell your two cards, add that money to your $800 pot, and then go 980 SLI.

PassMark with full core utilization is one thing, but gaming companies have been slapping AMD in the face for the past year esp with console ports. Although I think you're right. I did a bit more research and with this stable OC I should be good to go. I think I'm gonna go for the 980ti then (pretty damn exciting purchase).

Any opinions on which manufacturers pushing out the best product? GPU OC's aren't a huge priority for me. I always see 2-3 FPS increases at best and notice horrible micro-stuttering as a result of small instabilities.

I saw a report that as of Q4/14, MSI had the lowest RMA % for videocards in general. But as long as you go with one of the big boys, ie Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, EVGA, I doubt there is much of a difference between the cards.
