I would appreciate opinions on what would be the best graphics card under
150 pounds. I have done some research [ toms hardware etc] but am even more
confused than when I started. At the moment I am using a radeon 9600. Would
I notice a big improvement compared with say a radeon x600xt or pcx 5900?

Thanks

I think it depends on what else you're playing. If you're just playing
1942, my two cents would be to stick with what you have until the newest and
best cards drop more in price and then pick one of them up. That's usually
what I try to do. For instance I just bought a 6800GT to replace my old
GF4, so I won't buy another vid card for a fairly long while. A buddy of
mine is using one of the lower end FX5000 cards (5500 I think) and plays
UT2004, BFV, and 1942 with no problems. Other consideration is system
capability. A nice video card sitting on a slow board with a tired
processor and little RAM won't really do you alot of good.

Guess I took a long road to try and answer your question. Good luck!

PCX? Is this referring to PCI Express, or is it actually part of the
cards name?

In case you don't know, PCI Express is a new interface standard which
replaces both PCI and AGP, and is completely incompatible. I'm still
trying to decide if my next upgrade (within the next month or so) will
remain PCI/AGP and ATA, or go PCI-Ex (?) and SATA (Serial ATA).
