[SOLVED] Best version of macOS for HDD

Hi,
I have a MacBook pro that Has an external 1tb hdd. Specs: 2.7ghz i5, 8gb ram, intel iris 1gb. I want to know what the best version of macOS is for the spec.

As far as I understand externals should be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The OS does not matter.

APFS is for SSDs. Although you can use APFS for externals but it is mostly recommended for SSDs.
