Question best video card for old pc

I built my pc back in 2012 I think. I have been running crossfired ATI Radeon 6950's. Now at the point of getting ready to build a new rig, but just wanted to know first, what is the best single video card that would be compatible with my current rig which houses an ASUS P8P67 Deluxe motherboard using PCIe 2.0 for the graphic cards. The motherboard is LGA1155 socket with an Intel Core i5 in it. If I can save a little money and use this old thing a little longer, I might just do this.

Depending on your PSU, any GTX 1060/1160 or RX 580/590 would take most higher end 2nd and 3rd gen i5's to the limit.

PSU make model and wattage?
What is the resolution of your monitor and budget?

Your CPU will limit a modern GPU, but if you are planning to upgrade later I wouldn't worry about it.
