I'm down to two choices, either Virtualdub or Avidemux and would like your input. What do you think is the best video processing utility for making youtube videos out of the two? I would prefer to use h.264 for compression. Thanks for the input!

More Info: When I say "best" I mean for my needs. My ultimate goal is to be able to re-size the video to a smaller resolution then the original, use h.264 for compression, while balancing quality with file size. Most of all videos will be originally recorded with Fraps. Thanks =)

If Handbrake can take those files as inputs, it is by far the easiest way to do what you said you need. If you need to do something like split up sections of gameplay per level or something like that or if Handbrake won't process FRAPS video (I think it will, but I haven't actually tried that), the VirtualDub is probably your best bet.

tl;dr: VirtualDub is by far the best software if you need to do complex things, Handbrake is by far the best if you don't.

Okay, so I started off by trying Virtualdub and I'm liking it so far. I got the h.264 codec, Lame codec, and filter for resizing. I'm able to append AVI files and watch a live preview of video for quick editing. The only thing I can't "seem" to do is put everything into an MP4 container.

Next I tried Handbrake. Everything was going smooth until I realized I couldn't find a way to append avi files. Am I missing this option somewhere hidden within the menus?

I gave Avidemux a quick try but didn't have alot of time to spend with it yet.

So far I'm leaning towards Virtualdub. I like all the options available and the GUI that holds them. The only negative so far is I can't find a way to output source files to MP4.

iirc, YAMB should be able to take what you did in VirtualDub and put it into an MP4 container without having to transcode (fast, lossless).

Yes, its true.

I just think its easier to advice something that is less complicated for new user with little experience how to deal with Vdub . :)
