Hello top whomever ;-)... .SLI? Never heard of it before last week. I am not much good w/GPU's. CPU's I am great at. But GPU'S? No....lol.
I have 2 FX3800's. The 2 monitors is more than enough for me. Ok, with saying that. I just want use the extra FX3800. WHy waste it or let it sit there. The power supply is a 6 female plug. where do I get the correct wiring to connect both? Or if SLI is better. How do you hook it up. I tried Googling but got side tracked w/info I do not need. Anyone know the best & easiest way to run 2 FX3800's in a Z400?....H-E-L-P!....lol.

Solution
The FX 3800 is incapable of 'traditional' SLI where they will both work to render frames increasing the power over a single card.

It uses SLI Multi-OS. This is where you create virtual machines for others and for them to share GPU processing power. This is more of a cost reduction measure as it allows a single powerful rendering solution to be used by multiple people (instead of giving each their own).

By hooking it up it will do nothing but sit there wasting power.

Here is a video about how to create an SLI setup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gtu6h0BwbY

It also appears that PC uses a propriety power connector. You will have to find an ATX to HP mainboard connector then buy a power supply that has the proper connections for 2x...

For that look here:

look up PSUs from tier one or two and see if they say if they are SLI ready. This means they will have at least two PCIe power connectors for multiple graphics cards.

ok Kool...thanks. Great info. Looks like to go through all that seems a bit much. I am no big gamer. Angry Birds is about my speed for now....lol. I just felt if the other FX3800 is doing nothing why not hook it up. Guess I am lazy not taking in the correcrt info to get deep knowledge on GPU's. Took me 10 years to know CPU really "THAT" good & well. Heck I can build a Xeon in my sleep....lol. Yes fictitious, but you get what I mean. Best result for me would be get a 'used' Quadro 4000 or 5000 that connects to the 6-female plug-in & call it a day. But thanks so much man. In the future when I reach that gamer status. I will act on your recommendations......peace out... ;-)...

Semi retired now due to a horrible auto accident. Cost me big time. Worked "through" Intel & subcontracted through NrthpGrmn.. Hardware etc.. . Huge in components. Processors hardware in cars, jets, & 99.5% electronics is CPU governed (you know what I mean) ;-). The gpu I know the basics, but hook-up to desktops/laptops, I just am clueless. It is a matter of interest. I used Co laptops & if lost/stolen....they took care of it. Now having my own desktop a Z400 w/W3530 & a ZBook14 w/i5-4300U w/both respectable cpu's & workstations. I am on my own. No more Co. computer parents....lol. ..take care ;-)
