Best way to connect 2 screens to a single-HDMI-port-laptop?

Hi,

I have a single HDMI port in my laptop, and some USB 3.0 ports.

I had an argue with my friend about what's more efficient / profitable for connecting 2 external screens to it, both have DP and VGA ports:
connecting both screens to a 2-DP-to-HDMI adapter
vs
connecting one screen using a DP-to-HDMI cable and the other with DP-to-USB3 adapter.

For both general use and gaming. Please have Prices in mind.

Well for starters, this one:
connecting both screens to a 2-DP-to-HDMI adapter
Doesn't exist. HDMI can't support enough bandwidth for two screens anyway.
You could use a USB device, but you need to understand that this is not an adapter, but a secondary device.

For example, if you were trying to power 3 gaming monitors using a laptop - this would not work for that. It is viewed by the PC as a secondary graphics card, albeit an extremely weak, low powered one.


As far as i know the only native support for multimonitor laptops comes in the form of Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1C enabled devices which can daisy chain quite a few monitors while still using the PC's internal hardware.
