Best way to connect monitor to graphics card

i have an AOC lcd monitor that has a vga connector and a dvi-d connector. i also have a radeon hd 5770 graphics card that has dvi-i, hdmi, and display port.
i was wondering, whats the best way to connect the two? i currently have them connected by a dvi-d to dvi-d cable. would a hdmi to dvi-d cable be better(or any other possible combination), and if so, what would be the benefits?

The way you have it connected is the most optimal. Unless they start making monitors with HDMI connection and speakers that would optimize your experience w/o the need for external speakers or a separate audio card.
