I have just built a new pc. I didn't really think about needing an SPDIF port for my computer and didn't pay attention to the motherboard I picked out.
Well now that the pc is set up and I've been hooking stuff up I just realized I didn't have everything I needed (of course...).

I currently use a Shiit modi/magni stack that is connected to my mac mini by USB. I still have a SPDIF port available on the modi I could use for the pc.
What is the best way to do this? I see that there are just simple usb adapters that I could plug into a SPDIF cable but then there is also the route of old school sound cards.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

There could be an SPDIF header on your motherboard, make and model of your motherboard? If you genuinely need an SPDIF output from the PC, perhaps look at swapping the board for one that has TOSLINK SPDIF output or a sound card that has Coaxial or TOSLINK SPDIF.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just realized I called the connector the wrong thing. I do need a toslink. (i changed topic title)
There isn't an output on the back of the board. I have a MSI Pro z790-P.

I'm not really looking to switch out the board. Everything runs perfect and I don't want to go through the hassle. Live and learn.

I did find this adapter on amazon but I have no idea how well it works or the sound quality.

I'm not opposed to getting a sound card with the port I need but I'm not even sure what the current ones are and when I was looking up sound blaster, there drivers are still getting terrible reviews.

Nevermind, disregard this.
I decided to just order a schiit fulla for the pc for $109 and I will use that for gaming instead. I normally use an HD6xx on my schiit stack but I have a set of pc38x that I use for my ps5. I will just use the fulla for those since they don't need as much juice.

For anyone interested. I spent an hour looking at sound card reviews, most of them are older and the drivers are bad. (check out the soundblaster reddit)
At least with the fulla I can move it to a new PC/device and not have to worry about drivers.
