Best way to install 145 Microsoft updates

So I decided to return my 3 yr old Toshiba laptop to factory-out-of-the-box because it started lagging real bad while playing a game. Everything went fine, I reinstalled a few programs I use alot with the fresh state of the laptop. I updated Internet Explorer to 11 from 8 and it worked well.
After that, I didn't really mess with it too much for a few days. When I turned it back on I got a pop-up message saying updates were ready to install, so I clicked the ok button, not thinking too much about it. 3 hrs later my computer was finished updating. Yesterday, I needed to get on the internet and I kept running into Internet Explorer shutting down on me. I restarted the computer and still kept having the problem.

So was it the massive amounts of updates (145) or something else that broke IE?

I couldn't fix it so I decided to start my factory experience again. So far I turned off the updates so nothing can happen without my consent. Hopefully I can get this machine running like it did before the lag issue. So I guess I want to know what would be the best way to install all of the updates and do I really need to?

Any help would be appreciated.

You ask? Do you really need to install them? Well if you are completely off the grid and don't net surfing on your laptop, i would suggest not to bother. but if you do? Its extremely important that you apply these patches Windows patches. Best way to install them is overnight. Allow them to download when you go to bed, and when you head to work leave them installing.

Lol... Guess I deserved that. The problem I'm having is trying to figure out what broke Internet Explorer. Could it have been one of the updates or downloading and installing IE 11?

Would it be better to do them in batches or like you said, all at once?

If you're going to use the machine....then batch them (since most of them will require for you to reboot the machine at a given point). Do note, this will take quite a while (no matter how fast your internet connection), since its going to keep you task manager busy.

there is the best way to do it put the update to show only and let you choose what you want to install ,then use personnalize way first go with the sp pack if you need it then the critical update after the net framework one at the time since it will ask system restart then the office one and at last the optionnal one .
