Best way to normalize power draw of a device (such as using a UPS?)

So i have an issue that is not computer related but the question im posing here should still be answerable -

I have an ac unit that has breif periods in which its upper level of power draw can spike beyond the breaker limit and trip them.

would hooking this ac up to a UPS cause the spikes to eat the battery and retain a stabalized power draw from the outlet?

and in this situation does the VA or watts on a UPS even really matter?

Thanks.

Solution
UPS units are not designed to handle very high current spikes. This is something that an electrician needs to investigate and upgrade the circuit if necessary.
i figured as much, i just thought at 1300w useage, a spike would never be much higher than that, so if anything it'd just eat the battery and damage that over time
Thanks for the answer, though.
