Answer there all about the same except the expensive ones have gigabit port for faster transfer inside the network with computer with gigabit ethernet cards. Some routers are not as easy to configure but most nowadays have some sort of wizard for set up. I usually just go on to newegg.com and pick up the cheapest router with a high user rating.

Personally I would buy a wireless router since they cost about the same as long as you get a slightly outdated model.

I wanted to mention the TRENDnet TWG-BRF114. Unlike the D-Link's DGL-4100, it has a Gigabit WAN (Internet usually) port, which is good if you have a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem or fiber optic (example: FiOS). It also supports Jumbo Packets.

Nice information. I used DLINK and tried ASUS before, Dlink I would say has an average performance while I don't recommend ASUS. I have a friend who used Linksys and it works great. I also read about Cisco though they could be a little expensive than the rest. So I guess it would be linksys or cisco if you have additional money.

I always buy intellinet Routers Switches ect even for my customers. Because they have lifetime warranty. And they give you the professional features like QOS (Quality of service ) at a really good price.

Dlink, Linksys are the more reliable once. I had failure related experience with netgear routers.

I have a GIGABIT LAN at home and DLINK for router. My switches are combination of Linksys and DLINK. Both are very reliable 24x7. My network is supported by UPS/surge supressors.

USE the known brand DLINK/Linksys....Stay away from cheap brands... You'll get what you paid for

Thanks for the intro to the D-Link DGL-4100 which is superbly priced at New Egg. All the info on this site helped but your recommendation checked out in all the reviews as "rock solid". And I wasn't even the guy asking the question!

The D-Link DGL-4100 is a four (4) port Gigabit switch with a 100 mbps WAN port. If you have a Gigabit network, a DOCIS 3.0 or better cable modem or internet connection, you may want to look for a router with a Gigabit WAN port. I understand the Trendnet TWG-BRF114 may be an option. Does anyone know of others? Thanks.

Sure do appreciate the sound advice and assistance. I learned a long time ago that if you buy quality you get quality, a product with solid performance and no headaches. So I went all crazy and bought the D-Link DGL-4100. Now the IncurableGeek is happy. Thanks guys.
