so recently i was going to buy an ASUS rog GL752VW-DH71 17.3" Laptop, from staples canada. The price was was $1419.99 cad. Anyways i look into bestbuy canada and see that there is the same laptop everything (except the cover) was completly the same (but the price was $1899.99) so anyways bestbuy has a price match policy so i go there show staples.ca's webpage and state that bestbuy policy promises lowest price guaranteed. Guess what? they refused reducing the price stating that the cover was different . OK then i ask if they had something equal to that and they say. ok so i go back home and check the bestbuy canada site and wow. I found the same laptop, no change at all from staples at the same price as the laptop before. So i print everything and hold the laptop at the same store. Guess what? They refused to match the lowest price again saying again its not the same. A friend of mine said file a complaint but should I? Did they wrong me? Is this fair?

here was the original sites and bestbuy's policy

Many stores in the u.s. do the same thing, they offer price match but the fine print reads for the 'same' product. In order to be the same the product number has to be identical, otherwise technically they're two different products despite the similarities. Walmart in the u.s. is notorious for this since they often times make a bid to a manufacturer for an exclusive item.

It may be a well known brand, it may appear similar to something other retailers are carrying but when it comes down to it, it's technically a different product. The best part for walmart is when they do this they ensure no one will have that exact product and no worry about needing to honor price matching.

In this case as nukemaster pointed out there are subtle...
Right from the best buy site. Model #: G752VL-BH71-CB
And from staples. Model: GL752VW-DH71

The best buy one has a different GPU, G-Sync.

They are not the same laptops, and there is no reason for best buy to honor that.

I mean, it's right in the specs of each laptop that they are different. Maybe you should read a bit more.

best buy is great at price matching items and will match quite a few stores however only for exact matches which i doubt you were trying to do. as far as their website prices do make sure its from the store itself and not on their online marketplace as they may not honor marketplace (other people selling on their site) prices.

In this case as nukemaster pointed out there are subtle differences between the products so it's not really being scammed or shortchanged. They have no reason to honor price matching for two similar yet different products. If they were identical with the same model number it would be different.
