So when does the judging take place, and how do you account for shifting prices in the market? Do you just use the price as configured at the time it was posted, or is an entry disqualified if it goes over budget at the time of judging?

With current prices, here's what I got:

The Firefly
CPU: Intel i5 3570k for $219.99 at Newegg
HSF: Xigmatek GAIA SD1283 for $1.99 at Newegg with CPU Combo

SSD s are nice, but no real performance in actual fps versus the gpu/cpu. So I decided against it.

Went with the cheaper non unlocked i5. You could easily cool it with no cpu cooler.

you should also change HDDs the only difference between the $50 1TB Seagate and the WB blue is that WD is a more reputable brand and has a better warranty, the speeds are about the same and you also have an SSD so you can go cheap on HDDs

Much better! but i think you can still do better try out this SSD
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/sandisk-internal-hard-drive-sdssdx120gg25
it is cheap and reliable uses SATA III and the performance is on par to most high end SSDs

in pcpartpicker you should use this filter for SSDs
Type:SSD
Interface: Sata 6GB
Capacity: what ever you are looking for.
also click on price to GB and look for awesome deals like that Sanforce extreme.

Good luck on your next build!

Also looking at your build, since you are not going for an aftermarket heatsink you can get for tall heatsink ram to save money!
