Better for gaming: Windows 10 or Windows 7?

Well, they said Windows 8 was better than Win 7 and had pre-release benchmarks to prove it showing a 1-2% advantage . It failed to live up to that premise and in the end, Win7 proved to eb faster than Win 8.

Win 10 showed the same 1-2% in pre-release versions using today's popular games. and DX12 is supposed to bring increased performance once game devs start coding for it. However, we saw wonderful results telling us how great Mantle was going to be with specific benchmarks created that were tailored to it that showed big gains. However, these advantages never materialized in actual games released. So will DX12 deliver ? Right now all we have is speculation; given past hoopla, the next big thing rarely lives up to expectations...
I dont think there is a HUGE difference but I went from windows 7 to windows 10 and its just overall a much better experince.. plus they practically cost the same so you might as well buy the newest version

The question is , will the anti-privacy and forced updates making systems crash / unstable worth that increase ? Jury's still out.

About 1 in 9 eligible Win 7 / 8 users have upgraded to Windows 10
About 1 in 3 eligible Win 7 / 8 gamers have upgraded to Win 10

Is the increase among gamers due to perceived performance increase or because they are more likely to go for the "free" or "new" thing with less concern about system stability / privacy / peripheral compatibility / application support ? Hard to say.

In any case, 8 out of 9 users and 2 outta 3 gamers appear to be taking a wait and see approach. many of those are using this to prevent their systems from upgrading as MS is in progress of taking the Win 10 upgrade files out of the "optional" category in Windows Update.

I think you mean DX11 (Win 7 / 8 / 8.1)

Windows 10 has much better support for high resolution screen desktop scaling, if you care about that. For purely gaming the OS really doesn't make that much of a difference, so I would opt for Windows 10 to get the latest DX support. These days almost all computer activity takes place in a browser, and for games, full screen. How much do you care about the desktop experience. Even then it is just a matter of installing classic shell to have it behave just like Windows 7. Personally I found no need to install classic shell in Windows 10, it is close enough to the Windows 7 experience to not matter.

My only complaints are a few things moved around in system settings and the control panel. But that might be because I have gotten so used to Windows 8.1 at work.

How about when it come to older gaming. Games such as flight SIM X, nfs carbon, Skyrim and games like that? I'm not upgrading my hardware anytime soon so can't run new gen games (far cry 4 and such), and I'm having compatibility issues with win 10. Would. It be better for people in this circumstance to change back to 7?

Those are all relatively modern games. If you are having issues I would try the Compatibility modes as a first test. Check for updates to the games themselves as well.

I haven't run into anything Windows 10 can't run that I had working in Windows 7 and 8. And I do a lot of classic gaming.
