Better processor less ram or worse processor more ram?

Solution
get the better cpu. you can usually add more ram down the road, but won't be able to change out the cpu ever.

get the most cpu you can afford for sure, then worry about adding ram later on. you'll get better gpu out of the ryzen laptop so that's the way i'd go.

I do agree with your advice but you can change the CPU. I've done it myself several times before. Changing the memory should be much easier to do though (and cheaper)

Just make sure the RAM is not soldered. Some laptops solder the RAM now. This saves a little space.

While that was once true. In the quest for thin. Most laptops have eschewed the replaceable CPU.

That depends on the specific laptop and its motherboard.
Some yes, some no.

We cannot assume that this particular one can be changed.

I agree but we can also say that "but won't be able to change out the cpu ever." isn't 100% accurate either.

This is true.
Until the hardware is known, there is no 100% either way.

So any recommendations re: changing is simply a guess.

And I'd prefer not to recommend $$ be spent on a guess.
