Better Upgrade: 980Ti Card or 27"qHD GSync Monitor?

Which would you suggest as a better upgrade, monitor or card?

I currently have:

EVGA GTX 970 SC
BenQ 24" 1920x1200 TN panel monitor


I want to upgrade by getting:

GTX 980 Ti
or
27" Gsync Monitor with 144hz at 2560x1440 pixel resolution - Acer XB270HU or ASUS ROG PG278Q

And if the monitor is the way to go, do I wait for the new ASUS IPS? Or will that end up costing $1000+? I'm currently leaning toward either the ASUS or the Acer 27 inch 144hz Gsyncs.

And will I find that with the new monitor, that the GTX 970 won't have quite the horsepower to drive the higher resolution at high/ultra settings and still maintain 60+ frames per second? Vsync is very very very important to me and I will always take lower graphics settings rather than sacrifice anything under solid 60fps. This makes animation look fluid and gives it that real 3d-ish feel.

in terms of performance a 980 Ti is roughly 45% ahead in performance. Another option could be SLI 970s which is around 5-15% better performance than 980 Ti.

I like what the others have said about getting the monitor first, and saving up for the next GPU solution, whether that be SLI 970s or 980Ti). I'd prefer a single-gpu in general, but if I can get 15% better than the 980Ti for $300, that may be the ticket. Only problem is, my MoBo has only 2x8 pci-e slots (when in SLI mode) so I'll prob have to buy new mobo and might as well get a better proc while I'm at it... I have i5 3570k OCd to 4.3.

Just seen the ROG recommended more its up to you if you want acer one or stick with ROG. Yeah these things get expensive when you want to upgrade ha

I would buy the Acer Predator XB270HA 27" G-Sync 144Hz Gaming over the ROG Swift , the Swift is too expensive.

I sold my 2 x 970's and Bought a 980 Ti and instead of getting a 1440p 144hz gsycn pannel i got a 60hz gsync 4k pannel.

a the Acer Predator XB270HA is 1080p 144 hz monitor though, he is asking for improvement in quality. SLI 970s or 980 Ti would be a waste with that monitor.

Oh i'm sorry i got muddled up.

There's only 2 contenders in the gsync market @ 1440p which is the Acer Predator or the ROG Swift (as you have been discussing)

Maybe hold off for one of these.

I had the same gysnc dilemma - 1440p @ 144hz or 4k @ 60hz - i went with 4k and i don't regret it one bit! Arma 3, DayZ and other games i play such as ARK look stunning in 4k. When i drop down to 1440p i get a mental distaste.
