So my room and my brother's room are actaully built rooms in the garage. They are also pretty far from the modem in the living room with several walls in between. What can I do to strengthen my connection.
Clarifications (in case they help)
  1. ethernet is not an option as there is an exterior door between my room and the modem
  2. I have Wi-Fi through AT&T with an Arris NVG589 modem

Solution
The walls between a garage and the house tend to be insulated and built stronger than your normal interior wall. They tend to absorb a lot of wifi signals. There is no simple way to actually get more signal to pass through them.

Your best option when you can't use ethernet is to use powerline networks. The AV2 based units are the newest and best technology. They sell units that have wifi in the remote end. You can also put wifi on the end of normal powerline by using a small router as a AP. You might consider moca instead of powerline if you have coax tv cable.

I'm sure that's excellent advice if I had a modicum of an idea what it meant
