i have recently bought a pair of beyerdynamic dt 990 Pro headphones and they sound kinda quiet, even though i have a decent sound card (asus xonar se which has an amp for headphones with up to 300ohm) does anyone know why this is happening?

I seem to recall you posting this same problem very recently on these forums.

If no-one replied then, it could be because nobody here knows how to fix that particular problem or has had no personal experience with those particular headphones.

Some earlier threads which may help:

In the soundcard software do you have the amp set to high gain?

Edit: I fail reading. Sorry. 😛

Edit again: Ah you edited. Didn't think I saw high gain at first.

The card should drive the headphones. My 1990 Pros are also 250ohm but they're on the easy to drive side of 250ohm. Maybe try reinstalling the Asus software.

OK is there a difference when you switch from low to high gain?

Have you disabled onboard sound? I do it in BIOS. ( I have an Asus Xonar STX )

In Speakers / Headphones Properties - Enhancements off. Exclusive mode - both checked.

Are you using the sound card connection or the case headphone jacks? Did you try both to see if there is a difference? Cable seated all the way? Have you tested the headphones on the other computer that works OK with those same headphones?
