Solution
I have the same issue from time to time. I have an nvidia GTX 570, and every now and then, my game will crash. It tells me something about openGL, blah blah blah. i have heard that this could be some issue with punkbuster or something. But what I have noticed, is that whenever mine crashes, ,my audio drivers also crash. Try tweaking some of your audio settings/ just try playing for a while with your audio disabled in device manager under control panel. It's worth a shot I'd say.
This game has problems with a wide range of graphics cards. I am experiencing the same thing every once in a while and it keeps messing with my stats. If you have 4 gb of RAM only, then that might be the problem. You need minimum 6 gb in most people's opinions. It is very memory intensive. But I am almost certain it is just the game itself.

There has been a lot of driver issues with the AMD 7970 and along with the D3 games patch and you put both together then there is a problem. If you are having these problems on other games.

Then I would say for sure drivers. But if it is this game only then it is the game and eveybody is waiting for the new patch. At any time were you able to play without any problems?

Go to the D3 forums and read about this problem you will find a lot of people with the same problem. Good luck to you.

Solution

It is a video driver problem.. I used to get it all the time and uninstalling all of my previous drivers and installing the newest version (12.6) of drivers solved it for me.
