Hello, i recently got a gtx 570 for bf3 and in single player i can put every setting ultra and be fine, but when i go on multiplayer even on lowest i lag terribly around 15 fps. I also reformatted about a week ago.

CPU : AMD Phenom 9500 quad-core processor 2.20 GHz
RAM: 4GB
Video: Nvidia GeForce GTX 570
Os: Win 7 x64

....Try OCing your CPU. 2.2 gigs is SLOW. Anything below 3.2 will bottleneck your card in the most up to date games. Not sure the difference between single and mutliplayer, maybe thats where the multi core cpu speed comes into play. That card is a beast..... not sure how you ran everything on ULTRA in single player as from many reviews I have read you need at MINIMUM 580 gtx and that wont let you turn ultra on all settings at 1080.

i have the same card .i can run all setting but still get a bit of lag ever 30 seconds or so. running about 60- 35 fps with dips about 20 to 15 for a couple seconds i have a q6600 processor at stock voltage 2.4 i believe. hp mobo so ant oc it cause its locked. i think out cpu is the problem i have 3 gb of ram. 4.5 including my video card memory i think. too lazy to check righ now ahah. need to oc my rig but i need a new mobo first. im super broke so i7 is out of the question and i can get a good 775 board for about 70 us dollars online refurbished so i might go that route for now.

just bought the BF3 game and it lags horrible. Any ideas on why it does. Here is what I have
ASUSTeK Computer INC. M3N72-D
3.00 gigahertz AMD Phenom II X4 940
4 gigs of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 210-It supports BF3
Vista

ok guys try this out. so i can play ultra w/ my gtx570 and q6600 on campaign but not online, i know it sucks but dumb the video settings down to this and try it..
i gtg to work right now so i cant type what settings go where, but just follow these settings down

custom video settings
high
ultra
high
low
low
high
off
low
8x
off

after these settings im not lagging any more. i know its not ultra like the 570 card is meant for but it makes it run smooth and looks pretty good,. let me know if it helps. its a temp fix till i can get a new mobo to oc and new ram.

Hi all,

I was having the same problem with lag in Multiplayer games.

In Singleplayer Campaign mode I can set to the following ulltra settings avg about 40fps at 1080p.
Everything at ULTRA
2X Antialiasing Deferred
SSAO

In Multiplayer it depends on the map, if it is Operation Metro there is not much lag, but FPS noticeably slower than Singleplayer, in large maps with 64 players and lots of helicopters, it lags to about 10fps and is unplayable.

My System:

Athlon X2 7750 @ 3.0Ghz
HD 6850 @ 900Mhz
4GB RAM

I will try your custom video settings this evening and see how it goes. Thanks for sharing!

An update from last post.

Changing the settings works. I set the quality to Custom and toned down the texture quality from ultra to high. The stuttering had gone completely.

FPS is still relatively slow so I made some extra changes and turned off the Antiasliasing deferred and other settings from ultra to high. FPS ranges from 10 (sudden change to complex scenes) to 40 (small map alleyways). I suspect my dual-core is the bottleneck here. The in game settings description said texture quality eats up GPU memory and my card had 1GB ram for god's sake... anyway the eye candy stuff are amazing and definitely worth a hardware upgrade.

great specs, but your graphics card is the problem, gonna be honest with you :??: it's not meant for gaming , graphics card upgrade is really recommended if you really want to play battlefield 3 with less or without any lag 😍

Has any of you ever thought that it may be a poor internet connection to blame, especially considering he claims to max it in single but can't even play it in minimum on multiplayer?

Come on people, it's not that difficult.

basically all you guys struggling on dual cores have the same issue. dice lied. to play the multiplayer aspect of the game with bigger maps you need a minimum of a 2.4 intel quad or a 2.6 amd quad. any less and your fps will crumple no matter what settings you use...
yes the game states you need a minimum of a 2.4 dual but that is only for the single player. because the multiplayer is classed as a free add on it doesnt have to meet the same requirements as your not actually paying for it... (at least in the legal sense)... so what you get is a single player that works well enough but you have a multiplayer that requires more grunt...

the guy that has an amd quad. you need to get that cpu up to 2.6 minimum.

ping, line speed and data packets...
pin is important. the lower you can get it the faster you can comunicate with a server and update your game... problem is most multiplayer games have a rudimentory ping pallance where the server calculates the ping from all players and adds a delay to the faster pings to try and level the playing field. most games set a max ping to 150 as that is about the maximum b4 lag appears on a 16 man server... but bf3 allows up to 800 ping and because this means pretty much any 1 in the world can join your game you will have a lot more potential server lag... (the good thing is you can set your max ping in the ini files so it wont connect you to a server out side your ping parameters)
line speed is not that important for this game as your not hosting the match. if you were you would need a minmum upload speed of 64x8KB (or a 512KB upload) but you will also need a slight overhead do think 70x8KB and you should be able to host any game with up to 64 players lag free.

data packets
if i play the game at a minimum of 70 fps but im only getting 60 packets. so at least 10 of them fps will be created without any update from the packet data. this will result in stutter...
less than 60 fps say 40 your pc will update the game wil create a 3-2 ratio where every frame will be updated but 20 packet datas will be dumped resulting in visible lag. depending on when the packets are dumped will depend on what kind of lag you will see. if it dumps 1 packet every 3 frame because you have vsnc on you again will see stutter but if you dont have vsnc on you will use all 60 packets but the next set of packets will be out of sync and you will bounce back to where you were 20 fps ago. this is rubber banding...

on multiplayer if your playing on a 1080 display or bigger on a 570 or less then forget AA you will not notice it in the heat of battle and will give upwards of a 10% increase in your minimum fps...
the internet connection does have a role in smooth gameplay especially if you cant get a minimum of 60 fps. as the game sends 60 packets per second you will quickly jump out of sync if you cant maintain 60 fps minimum. if you can get over 60 fps then you will have the same issue if you dont lock the fps down with vsnc...
i hope this makes sense as im dyslexic and cant always express my visualizations clear enough for you all.

Clear enough, my good man.

It's nice to see some knowledgeable veterans still hang around to set the rest of us straight.

Gawd I hate that. I keep telling myself to edit first and post later, but I still find myself editing here and there for up to 10 minutes after a post. I'm sure I look like the ultimate retard to the mods (as well as a royal pain, seeing as how they have to keep coming back to check every time I hit submit).
