Whew! Gotta upgrade as I'm on low setting for this monitor...
I'm sure there will be a division between two camps, however, what I'm interested in is how much is needed? Will a 770 suffice? 780 R9 280x/290x?
Memory requirements to run 1440p
sli or crossfire etc etc etc.
(560ti, it's been a nice two year run, but I've really got to let you go play somewhere else...sniffle sniffle)

Don't get the 280X. Bought it yesterday, upgrading from a GTX 660 and although perceptibly "faster" in terms of raw performance there's a certain stuttery nastiness about the image that's really hard to pin down. If I were you I'd go with the 770 and just overclock it, the price drop in the last week more than justifies it. In benchmark terms you might get the slightest edge in terms of £/performance but in actual gameplay terms - comfort, smoothness, reliability - Nvidia was superior. Sorry nvidia, need to get my damn 660 back now.

This is the reason why i dislike amd bro and i never recommend them no matter how many cards they bring out. The drivers imo are not all that swell and crossfire has issues from what i hear and ill rather take nvidia/sli any day. Most def you should get your nvidia gpu back and go sli in the future

770

Yup people are going to write me off as some sort of Nvidia fanboy but honestly I've used enough different graphics cards for long enough to differentiate between what's working 'right' and what's not, and the Powercolor 280X is way - WAY far from being ready for release. The card is a mess, the materials used in the card must also be poor (since i can overclock to a grand total of 80Hz on a monitor that has comfortably done 120hz without breaking a sweat before I got this POS).

So - Moral of the day guys - don't buy a cheapass R9 280X Powercolor. It is juddery, the ports suck, and the overclocking sucks.

Lesson = Learned.
