So I'm downloading battlefield4 through origin and it started at about 300-400kbps but then at about 10% it slowed down to 100-150kbps which will approximately take 33 hours. Now before suggesting solutions note that when I used the speedtest I got about 0.9mbps (or whatever the unit is mb, m) and I've tried running origin in R & E mode which didnt change it at all and also tried using the google DNS servers which also did nothing. Steam downloads and Firefox downloads are often 300+Kbps which is really a great improvement so any suggestions? I have a netgear router and live in Australia.

EDIT: I kept it on R & D mode then when it got to about 55% done it boosted up to 800-900kbps so only a 3 hour wait aposed to 30! 😀

Differences in names, it looks like. Speedtests (and internet speeds in general) are advertised as BITS, whereas your actual download speeds are in BYTES. (Bytes are often represented as a capital B, whereas bits are generally represented as a lower case b)

8 bits in a byte, so your speedtest of 0.9Mb/s (900Kb/s), factoring in internet contention along the line, yeah, 100KB/s sounds about right for a download speed. Origin has a knack of saying you're downloading faster than you actually are (I get 8MB/s downloads with them, yet my internet line physically cannot download faster than 6MB/s), so it might just be Origin slowly showing the correct download speed after a while.

What are your download graphs like on Steam? Are they solid...
Why would it progressively decrease though? And release was awhile ago now.. No way to bypass this agonizing wait like maybe torrent an illegal copy then switching some files to make it legit ?

What are your download graphs like on Steam? Are they solid downloading or is the graph staggered? I've seen this as well on my own connection, where Steam will not download anything for about 5 seconds, then download really fast (or seem so), as if it's trying to hit an average.

Solution
Yea the steam download graphs stagger like how you said when they stop momentarily then all over the place, I appreciate the speed information I guess my Internet is just really crap mixed with origin being stingy.

+1
And Steam download info is flawed
