BFE not starting

hi guys...I need help with turning on bfe...which is needed 4 reinstalling avast 9...hope u understand my question hahaha

Go to run/start type services.msc Look for base filtering engine. Put it on auto and start it if its there

hi Paul....I jus did that and when I tried to start it says... error 5 or something like that

Something has screwed it up. What was installed before Avast?? Did something infect this like a virus recently?

So its not the one youre on?? That error 5 is a denied access error. Does the firewall work? Whats the version of windows?

I don't really know about PC...I just used it for gaming...and also I'm sending this from my phone

Well umm that error I think you would have to go into the registry to fix it. Its like a permission error. Thats why the service wont start

What version of windows is on it?

Download this run it on that computer. This will import some registry info for it into that PC's registry

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/win-services/7/BFE.reg

Then this http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_security_diagnostic/

If that doesnt work

This

Go to start/run type regedit

Then do this

a. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BFE <- this is whats giving you that error 5
b. Right click on it-permissions
c. Click on ADD and type
d. Everyone and click ok
e. Now Click on Everyone
f. Below you have permission for users
g.Select full control and click ok
h. Now, open RUN and type
i. services.msc and click ok
j. Start base filtering engine service and then windows firewall service

Then see if the bfe service starts
