I'm having problems with my BFG 9600GT-OC. I can do any task on my computer and even play COD4 on max settings for hours with no problems. However, when I try to play: counter-strike 1.6, condition zero, counter-strike:source, day of defeat: source, and HL2 I can only play for a short time (5 seconds - 10 minutes) before my screen goes black, my sound loops, and I end up resetting my computer. I thought it may have been heat, but I opened the side of my case, used RivaTuner and turned my GPU fan up to 100%, and even placed a floor fan near the case. All my temps stay below 40 degrees C at all times. I have the newest drivers and i've tried EVERYTHING, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions? I've heard that a lot of 9600GT's were defective so I went ahead and ordered a GTX260. Hopefully that will work and I can RMA this one.

Also check your power supply. could be that you have a cheap power supply that just can't supply enough juice to your rig and it's locking up. If that's the case and you have a PSU go, you could potentially take other parts with it when it goes.

Well, its a pretty new rig. I've got a 550w Ultra X2 Modular PSU that's SLI certified so I doubt is the PSU. Also, I don't think the PSU would handle supplying during COD4 and not CS1.6

(Guess it would have helped if I had listed my comp specs eh?)

EDIT: I built it myself so it's not a barebones HP/Dell/Toshiba with a 9600GT swapped in ( :non: )

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core (5600+ @ 2.81GHz)
RAM: 2GB DDR2 800 (PC6400) Crucial Ballistix 4-4-4-12
MOBO: MSI K9N4-SLI with nForce 500 SLI Chipset
PSU: Ultra X2 (550w) SLI Certified
GPU: BFG 9600GT (OC Edition)

the 9600 gt oc and family have a built in problem with shaders.

i spent hours researching this and found a easy solution that is a little time consuming.

basically, i downlowd NVFLASH and made a copy of my video cards firmware.

i then used NiBITor to modify the shaders file from 1700 to 1625.

I resaved it and flashed my card with that new file. It worked perfectly..

all the nvidia and bfg forums talk about PSU and drivers and chipsets and its all crap.

Basically, once you make the shaders change, bf2142, counterstrike all of them will start working just fine.

note: it saves the same firmware version # so don't get fooled by everybody out there claiming a new firmware.. there isn't one officially.
