BG1: Die roll questions

I am playing through BG1 and have the display die roll option switched on.
However, the modifiers are often only +0, +1, -1 for the most part. Is the
modifiers shown the culmination of all bonuses and or penalties? I'm
thinking yes. Rarely do I ever see a +1 during melee, which is my Fighter's
STR bonus. What else goes into a combat die roll? I just want to be sure
I'm not getting cheated.

Also, how is it possible for a noncritical hit from a Kobold shooting an
arrow to inflict 7 HP of damage? This was shot from a short bow. Last I
knew arrows did 1-6 points of damage and there are no STR bonuses to the
damage.

Thanks in advance,

Brandt

RCV: Strength and other personal combat bonuses are added to your base
THAC0 [which you see on your record screen], the mods you see in the
dialogue box at the bottomn of the screen are situational ones such as
spells, like Bless, etc. So not all of the mods show up in the dialogue box
because many of them are already included in the THAC0 itself. One mod
that definately ISN'T included in your base THAC0, ie. its one that will
show up in the dialogue box, is weapon type vs. armor.
In any event, you are not being cheated.
[I don't have, off hand, the list of which mods show up where, but no
doubt one of the more learned people here will] 🙂

RCV: Not sure on this one. Arrows should do 1-6, Short bows don't add
damage and strength doesn't modify bow fire [not that it should matter,
Kobolds are supposed to have like a 7 average strength!].

Are you playing at a high difficulty? I think that might increase
damage from enemies, but I'm not sure. Bassically though, I dunno..... :-(

Bonuses due to high strength, weapon specialisation and enchantments
are not shown. Bonuses against specific creature types and damage
types are, however.

An error in the IE. It is possible to roll a 9 on 2d4, e.g.

At normal difficulty, a critical hit from Kobold inflicts 16
damage. :O
Something in the implementation???

Ah. That'd explain what I've observed. Thanks for the info.

Or maybe they were just firing with arrows +1 ?

It has been proven that it sometimes generates impossible results.
