[SOLVED] Big but short FPS drops. Ryzen 5 2600, Nvidia GTX 1070

Hi,

I have the following components:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 FE
RAM: 2x 4gb DDR4 @ 2400 Hz
MOBO: MSI B450 Gaming Plus
PSU: Be Quiet 400w

My cinebench 20 score was 2700-2800 (cant remember exact) - Max CPU temp was 72
My unigine Heaven Bench 4.0 scores were FPS: 245.1, Min FPS: 9.1, Max FPS: 440.7 when running the 1080p low settings test. Max temp was 80



My set-up seems more than capable at reaching high frame rates however when playing a game (Fortnite) all low settings @ 1080p it suffers weird drops every time I move the camera or perform some kind of movement etc. I cap fps at 160 and it dips to anything from 30 to 100 every couple of seconds. If I change the cap to 60 fps it drops to 30s etc.

I reinstalled windows, updated drivers, changed nvidia + windows to performance settings. No idea what it could be. When playing, the cpu and gpu usage is typically at 70% and 60% respectively.

You need more, and faster ram, and that PSU is a bit low, for your components.

There's some screenshots of my MSI Afterburner readings. Does it back up any of your theories? Just want to be sure before going and buying new ram and psu

nVidia webpage says the minimum PSU is 500 watts.

Pretty much every review site says 16gig is the minimum they recommend for a gaming machine...also the Ryzen 2600 runs best with memory in the 3200mhz range with the tightest timings possible which is typically cas14 for that speed.

Hey man I have the same CPU and GPU and a better PSU and RAM and let me tell you, it doesnt help with Fortnite. I have been trying to figure out the same problem you're dealing with for what seems like forever and have yet to find a solution. I just reinstalled Windows and that seemed to help, but currently on the road for work so wont be able to really tell until I am back.

Couple questions for you - did you ever have your PC debloated? Also have you ever monitored your Frametimes while playing Fortnite? Because for me, there's a spike every 61 seconds and that causes the FPS drops (as well as stutters or hitches). It can be brutal to play with.
