Big enough PSU? Need advice!

i am currently running a 700w PSU with the following components:

i5 3570k oc'd to 4.4
sabertooth z77 motherboard
2 1 tb hd's
1 128 gb ssd
cd/dvd player
6 case fans
cpu cooler (evo)
gigabyte gtx680
pci wireless reciever
keyboard and mouse

its running perfectly, im just wondering if 700w will be enough when i ad the following parts:

Drive bay card reader (reads sd, micro sd and so on)
blu ray player
SIIG USB 3.0 4-Port PCIe
add another fan to cpu cooler for push/pull config
and add another gtx 680 for sli

tthanks for any info/help/tips :)

Sli GTX 680s generally require a recommended 750-800 watts. Depends on the make and model of the PSU though. If it's cheap junk you are probably risking the parts you have now. I probably would not try to run 2 x GTX 680s with even a quality 700w model myself.

That should definitely be enough for another 680. The other components are pretty negligible when it comes to overall power consumption, i think. I am pretty sure that 750w is "recommended" when it comes to SLI, but two 680's and an oc i5-3570k should be just fine, even on a 700w. Most people overexaggerate when it comes to what you actually need when it comes to power supplies.

Have you bought this psu yet? If you have, what brand? If you haven't, I'd might recommend going up to 750w from a recognized brand like Seasonic, XFX, most Corsairs, Antec, and some others. That way you can have some piece of mind when it comes to being sure you have enough power for all of your components.

i have a 700w supply right now, it not a very well known brand i dont believe, Apevia. Ive heard bad and good about them. But if i need a bigger one i would definitively go with seasonic or corsair. I might upgrade just to be safe, whats the worst that could happen if there isnt enough "juice". Would it just crash or could components be ruined?

Cheap, low quality power supplies not only generally do not produce their rated voltage they also can produce high ripple and noise on the individal rails that can actually damage your components. They also tend to fail, sometimes dramatically when stressed.

Aptiva is on the do not buy list.

I would not even trust a single GTX 680 to a piece of junk like that. A $500 graphics card deserves a quality power supply.

If you want to run 2 x GTX 680s get something good like the 750w Seasonic X series. Pretty much anything by Corsair ( not the CX series ), Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling, XFX, Silverstone, Enermax, OCZ, Antec or the higher efficiency Rosewill units would assure you of having something good.

The worst that can happen is when it dies it takes your motherboard, cpu, memory, and graphics card with it. Actually the worse that can happen is it starts on fire and takes the whole house with it but that is not likely.

Get a new powersupply in the 750-850 range from Seasonic (best) , Corsair, or Antec (tied for 2nd best).

Hard to quantify that statement since Seasonic makes some of the higher end Corsair and Antec models. Also the best Corsair units are made by Flextronics ( AXi ) and those units are arguably as good as any Seasonic.

Yeah especially with a high end computer like yours you should never go cheap on the power supply. It's actually the most important part of the computer.

A high quality 1000w PSU is the way to go for high end SLI, 850 watt can do but it will not be as efficient at max loads over the 1000w counterpart. I used to run sli with a Corsair 850HX and it would be hot to the touch after an hour of gaming, bought myself a 1000w and now it cool losing little energy to heat.

^ Completely untrue. If you were stressing an 850w power supply with 2 x GTX 680s it was not a very good power supply.
