hi all,
i have just built a puter: amd k7 1.2 ghz thunderbird, 256 pc 133 ram, kt7raid (abit) mobo, ricoh mp9120 cd/cdrw/dvd, xgamer 5.1 sound card, 64 ddr radeon vid card and a 3c905c nic card. i have a maxtor 30 gig 7200 ata 100
drive, but am not using the raid (dont ask 🙁). i am plugging the ribbon cable into the regular ide channels on the mobo. i keep checking the system log and keep getting an atapi error. i am using w2k professional sp1 and experiencing random freezing on the system. i have installed all of the latest via chipset, bios and hard ware drivers, including the agp drivers for the amd chip. please advise?
i keep getting an "atapi" error in the system log: device ide port1 did not respond in timeout period. i think that this is causing my freezing problems, its my ricoh cd drive. Any ideas?

It might be because Windows 2000 doesn't support ATA 100, it defaults all ATA 100 drives to ata 66.. This can cause freezes from what I've seen. This is supposed to be fixed when service pack 2 comes out..
