Binding extra mouse buttons to keys in games - possible?

Hello!

I'm looking to buy a new mouse, and I'd prefer to keep it cheap (nothing like Razer and the likes), something below 25 euros.

My only requirement is to have extra buttons that can be assigned in games to certain actions. For example, to open my inventory, to crouch, to dodge, to use a skill or... whatever else that I can simply bind to a key in the options (like on the keyboard or with the LMB/RMB/scroll).

Now, I've found dozens of mice that have pre-defined keys, mostly the "back/forward" buttons, occasionally double click and almost all the time the DPI change. I know for one that THOSE can not be used for what I want to use them.

There are also some that come with a software on a CD that claims you can "program your buttons" using it.
I'm guessing that means selecting an option from a list (like copy, paste, back, forward, double click, change volume, show desktop etc...)?

Or does that mean I can actually assign anything to that button like the left mouse button for example?

The mice I've checked out so far were:
A+ G7-Kotys - this one has 8 buttons + wheel (so 6 extra) and I can't think of 6 pre-defined functions that make any sense
- also this one doesn't have a software for it
(couldn't find an official website)

NATEC Genesis GX68 - claims it has "7 fully programmable buttons which can be assigned to any function"

The A+ one is currently at a discount for a day or two, so I'd really love to get an answer soon :)

Thanks in advance!

For gaming mice you can program them to be used for anything, so you can bind the mouse to say Alt 5, then use map Alt 5 to some in-game command.

I have no idea about the two mice you picked, there are plenty of those mostly generic mice vendors, many of them are not that bad at all actually, you just need to find some reviews about them.

Yes, actually that's the thing I also thought about after posting this... that if the mouse comes with a software that's capable of running macros then I can make 1 button macros and bind the actions to some keys on the keyboard that I'm never using.

I ended up ordering the A+ one (not the G7 Kotys, but the G5-Loki which was at the same price). I'll comment here about my results once it arrives in case anyone else will be looking for a similar answer in the future.

actually.. forward/back/dpi can often be remapped. using bundled software makes it easier than needing to do it with 3rd party tools though.

generally software lets you pick commands, keyboard keys or keep a generic mouse button number.

now, not all games like using mouse buttons outside of the normal l/r/c/wheel or may have some keys locked so you might have to come up with special solutions for those games. for such games i often remap keyboard keys to those buttons which are always bindable in games. my right ctrl is forever bound as a / as well so i can jump in mmo games (many lock the ctrl key to alt-combinations and i use arrow key move). generally my side mouse buttons and gamepad are locked to keyboard keys given game compatability is so-so with unique buttons but it really depends on the kind of game you play (shooters are fine normally, mmo is hit or miss depending on programming).

using programs like autohotkey or similar may be needed if you get a mouse without good macro creation software. some allow only single key binding.

The mouse has arrived (A+ G5 - Loki) and to my pleasant surprise, the keys CAN be assigned inside the game's options.

Thank you for the responses, and I hope if anyone has similar questions in the future they'll find this thread :)
