BIOS and booting.

Hi guys.

I posted to the forums the other day about a problem I was having a new build - the system will not boot, and I couldn't understand why. On a reply to the post there was a thread about common new build problems which I tried many of, but I think I've found the problem.

I believe that my motherboard needs to have a BIOS update before it can be used with my CPU, and I have a couple of questions regarding this.

#1: How do I find out what BIOS my board currently has?
#2: How do I update my BIOS without being able to boot the system I want to use it on?
#3: Is there anyway to update my BIOS with using an older processor?

Thank you in advance.

Yeah I see Pentium G3258 is supported with bios version F5 and you likely have the original F3. I don't see any option like Flashback that would allow you to flash the bios with the system powered off so you're probably stuck either having to come up with a supported cpu or taking it somewhere to have it done.

Newegg has Celeron G1820 processors for < $50 shipped, just an example but it could be cheaper than taking it in somewhere ... probably a bit slower though.

Unless you know someone who has a cpu supported since F3 on this list http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4958 .... Sorry :/

#1- The bios version your board has will be displayed in the bios.

#2- You can update bios by "flashing" it. Look her: http://www.howtogeek.com/196916/how-to-check-your-bios-version-and-update-it/

#3- Yes you can update the bios with an older cpu and then install the new cpu.

would you be able to update the BIOS without booting properly? Would it be cheaper to get this done by a professional rather than buying another CPU?
