Bios and CD/Dvd boot

ok there are the things i want to work....
1.My Bios does not show up....
2.Even if i open up the bios by press F2 it doesnt save the chage made by me......(i even tried replacing the cmos battery but no use)
3.not even a single bootable disk i have boots......(works in other PC's)
4.even if i open the setup from the drive wen i logged in it does not show the install option in XPSP3.....
the reasons i want my pc downgraded to xp is its slow.........
My pc specs are 80gb ide,1gb ddr2 ram,processor E2140 dual core @1.60ghz,motherboard D945GCPE......pls help me guys......

no i saved the setting for sure......but i was able to change and save the setting from before wen i installed vista recently......

Some bioses need specific instructions to be set by the user before they will be saved properly but usually older computers pre 2005.

Make sure the Date & Time are set to current, the boot order, the video out option, disable Lan if not in use, don't overclock anything until you have a working OS. Ensure your ram meets the motherboard specifications.
Also make sure your PSU does have adequate surplus power,

guy i cant save the bios itself....and it does not show the DVD RW in the boot priority,it only shows the HD and an ethernet thing......but i can read and write the dvds,cds without any problem....and wat should be the master and slave..........

how can i make the dvd in a diffrent cable,they both have 40pin cable....and in MB there is only one 40pin cable avaliable.......

I think you need to get either s Sata cd/dvd drive or a Sata hdd otherwise you will have to piggy-back the hdd with the cd/dvd drive. It's not a good comibnation, though. You probably have the long end of the cable connector with the Cd/dvd drive so as to reach the drive, usually, the long end goes into the motherboard.


You might have to experiment, try the CD/DVD as Primary and set the hdd as Slave (refer to the label on the hdd for the jumper settings). Set your PRimary boot device as your Cd/DVD drive and the Second boot as your hdd.

If you don't have spare cabling, then set the last one on the cable to the CD/DVD drive (that being the first boot) and the second last one to the hdd.

hmmm the problem is both the HDD and DVD are ide,even if i interchange the jumper to master and slave same result.......sooo is there a ways to connected a DVD drive to the FDD slot with some unique cable with 39p in one end and 34p in other....

We don't seem to have discussed the PSU which is usually my first query above all else. If the PSU is under-powered, it will only support either the hdd or the DVD drive but not both at the same time. Usually for this type of rig, you wouldn't need more than 400 watts but not less than 300 watts.

Also, what is your video card, does it require PSU support cable? (it would be AGP or onboard. Onboard gpu would only be about 64mb.

The ram for this motherboard should be DDR2 667 or DDR2 533 MHz SDRAM

You say 1gb but is that really 2 x512mb or actually 1024mb x 1 (ie 1gb)


Rather than downgrading, it won't make any difference to downgrade to SP2 or SP1, it's more likely that your hdd is full or of a low volume. @1.6mhz, the cpu is slow, anyhow. Ther is nothing you can do to make it faster, ever a higher mhz of ram above 667mhz would also make it slower impacting on the cpu speed.

Actually, you could get a faster systyem by utilizing DDR2 533mhz because your would then be the controlling speed.

You are using the onboard gpu, it could be as much as 128mb but not sure whether it would be any more than that, I can't find any reference to the onboard video out ram)

You have to consider for what purpose you intend for this motherboard, it's not really much good for current programs and PC games but only for Office apps and simple programs, older PC games pre 2003 might be suited but would be still quite laboriously slow to play.

u see its onboard graphic,it can go up to 256 ram in xp if more than 1gb ram is installed(mine is 1gb x 1) that is y am going to xp is crucial.....at no my MB can play games like pes06,GTA SA,NFS MW etc in medium settings at fullspeed......even play ps2 game with emulator.....and dude i checked the MB with diffrent hdd if the bios show in startup,but sadly no so hdd and DVD no problem....there must me some thing wrong in MB i guesss.................and can u point me a good MB which supports DDR2 ram,E2140 processor(dualcore),ide HDD,s in below Rs 5000-6000.........

The maximium ram for this motherboard is only 1gb, more than that will give you beeps, not allow boot up, or not show more than 1gb.

The same would most likely apply to ther motherboards with the same processor so basically, you need a better motherboard to attian the use of 2gb or more ram.

if the bios does not display. Remove and rest the BIOS is up to about 5 seconds will be displayed. you need to update the bios but still does not appear. You can download and install it from their site in the bios of your brand. not forced to have an easy installation
