Bios auto settings are weird. Please advise

CoolerlMaster RC690
Antec EarthWatts 750W PSU
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Everything on my system is stock. No overclocking.

My bios automatically sets my ram to the following settings
9-9-9-24-1N
DRAM Volt 1.73

The Manufacturer lists the settings as
7-7-7-21-3N
DRAM Volt 1.5

My problem is if I change the settings to the manufacturers listings I get rounding errors in Prime95 about 5 min in.(Though I notice no actual problems with the PC.) If I leave the settings at my Bios Auto, then Prime95 Runs all night no problems.

So my first question is does anyone have any idea whats up?
Second, if I just leave the settings on auto. How big a loss is there from the loser Ram timings?

Sounds like the manufacturer is selling overclocked RAM. Your Auto settings are based on the contents of the SPD chip. Manufacturer settings are based on what they think they can get away with.

If you want to try to use the manufacturer's settings, try boosting the RAM voltage a tenth of a volt.

Is that why the auto voltage is higher? Would low DRAM volt lead to Prime95 failing?

Eh, it's possible. The only way you'll know is if you test it. It's already running the voltage pretty high, (1.5v is standard for DDR3) but I'd try running it somewhere between what it is now and the standard then moving closer to the auto settings until hopefully it works with those timings.
